A combination of half-double crochet stitches and chain spaces create the lacy fabric in this triangular shawl. The charming scallop edging adds the perfect finishing touch.

MATERIALS

Lion Brand® Vanna’s Choice (Art. #860)#4 medium weight symbol
[3.5 ounces, 170 yards
(100 grams, 156 meters) per ball]:
#143 Antique Rose - 4 balls
Lion Brand® crochet hook, size J-10 (6 mm) or
size needed for gauge
Lion Brand® split ring marker
Lion Brand® large-eyed blunt needle

GAUGE: 13 (hdc, ch-2 sp) and 22 rows = 10"
             (25.5 cm)

SHAWL

Ch 4, hdc in first ch to form ring.

Row 1: Ch 4 (counts as first hdc plus ch 2), turn; hdc in ring, ch 2, hdc in ring: 2 ch-2 sps.
Row 2: Ch 4, turn; (hdc in next ch-2 sp, ch 2) twice, hdc in 2nd ch of beginning ch-4: 3 ch-2 sps.
Rows 3–70: Ch 4, turn; (hdc in next ch-2 sp, ch 2) across, hdc in 2nd ch of beginning ch-4: 71 ch-2 sps at end of Row 70.

EDGING

Row 1: Ch 1, turn to work along left diagonal side; sc in first sp at side, (ch 3, sc in next sp at side) across left diagonal edge until 70 ch-3 sps have been made, ch 3, sc in same sp at tip of Shawl, place marker around ch-3 sp, (ch 3, sc in next sp) 70 times along right diagonal edge: 141 ch-3 sps.

Row 2: Ch 3, turn; 2 dc in first ch-3 sp, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp, cross symbol for footnote 5 dc in next ch-3 sp, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp cross symbol for footnote; repeat from cross symbol for footnote to cross symbol for footnote across to ch-3 sp before marked ch-3 sp, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp, 5 dc in marked ch-3 sp at tip of Shawl, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp; repeat from cross symbol for footnote to cross symbol for footnote across to last ch-3 sp, 2 dc in last ch-3 sp, dc in last sc.
