help to understand the guage
Submitted by questioner on Thu, 01/06/2011 - 20:36The gauage in the pattern is described as being "11 sts and 16 rows = 4" (10 cm)". What does this mean? Are their 11 sts in 1 inch or in 4 inches?

HI,
I am new to crocheting and just found this website. I hope this is the right place to post this qustions.
I am crocheting a ruffle for the bottom of a denim skirt.
I am completely baffled by my next line of instructions. My last stitch around the circle of the ruffle was sc and ended with joining the circle and then, ch 3.
RND 5: Sk 2 st, *make group into next st, sk 2 st, dc into next st, cont from * around to beg ch 3, join, ch 3.
If anyone can shed some light on waht I am supposed to do, I would be very grateful.
Hi, I am from Ohio, and am a Stock Broker. I take quite a lot of interest in art works like sewing, crochet work, etc. I love to dedicate my weekends for Making Crafts, and constantly pick up new craft ideas from my surroundings.
My skill level is beyond beginner and I would like to move into more advanced projects (both knitting and crochet). When I am shopping around and see yarns I like, I don't seem to be able to match them to patterns that I want to do. The patterns I find call for very specific yarns and brands and these aren't the ones on sale at knit picks or at the store. I am accumulating yarn and getting tired of just making hats and scarves! Am I looking in the wrong places? Is there a way to match up the yarns I have with compatible patterns without being limited to the yarn manufacturer's patterns?
I'm posting this on all three boards.
At another site I read that a couple of people infected their computers with multiple viruses when they opened the patterns page at www 'dot' chemocaps 'dot' com. I know that a number of people who frequent this site do charity work, particularly chemo caps, so I thought you ought to be warned.
my curving was because the foundation chain was too tight, so i loosened it considerably on my next project, and now its startng to curve again! i dont know what to do.
i am a beginner and i started an afghan but on the second row after chaining, the whole length of the beginning pattern is curved inward. how do i keep my rows straight?
I was gifted a ball of yarn, but don't know the yardage. Is there a formula to calculate the yardage based on weight of ball and type (light worsted to worsted) of yarn?
Why is there a new forum....I thought the old one was great...Always looked forward to reading so many questions answered...Now ,unless I'm not doing it correctly, it doesn't seem like there are many returns on subjects...I miss the old one...Lot of smart and lovely ladies out there willing to help...I've been gone for a few years due to mother's health and now look forward to reconnecting...Any clues?
