I am unable to find this yard locally. What could I substitute? Is there a chart anywhere that gives substitutions for yards by Brand and yard name, e.c. Bernat cottontots

I'm pretty sure that one of my local stores carries it. I have to go by there this afternoon and I'll stop in and compare it to some other yarns. I'll let you know what I find out later this evening. I always like to have an excuse to play with yarn.

If you do not already know the weight-range of this yarn, you could search for it on the Internet to find out if it is a worsted, DK, sportweight, etc. You could also look at the pattern gauge and look for a yarn with a similar appearance that will work to the same gauge.
Cotton is generally heavier than wool or acrylic for the same yarn "weight" so if you go with acrylic or a cotton blend or wool substitute, you may need fewer balls to get the same yardage.
