I do not understand the symbols on the crochet chart that I am working on. Can anyone help me?

The symbol is a bigger oval shape with a line on top of it and two smaller lines through each side. The pattern is the Shimmer Shawl by Nikki Slipp on Ravelry.

Any help would be appreciated.
