I'm working on a sweater for myself and have come to the point of making the sleeves. The pattern calls for knitting them on DPNs which I am not that comfortable with. (I've already tried and ended up frogging it).
What I want to know is, can I knit the sleeves flat and seam them up? If so, do I need to add a salvage stitch to each end of the sleeve when I cast on?
Here is the first part of the pattern.

Twisted Rib
Worked back and forth:
Row 1: [K1 tbl, p1] to end.
Row 2: [K1, p1 tbl] to end.
Repeat these 2 rows for Twisted Rib

Waffle Stitch

I HAD a pattern for a helmet hat copied from the internet,under the learn to knit/Oct2003,I lost my copy and am in the middle of making a hat,got to the point where it decreases to form the top. Can't get into the site of learn to knit that I cam re copy the pattern. Any suggestions? Martie L.

Last week I was seduced by a yarn color at a craft fair. I asked the woman who was selling it how many yards, and she said "I don't know but it weighs 4 ounces." So I bought the skein of yarn and brought it home. Now. How can I determine how many yards are in it, without actually measuring the entire length? The skein was about 22-24 inches long when I laid it out on my countertop, so I roughly guesstimated that it was about 72-74 yds. It did have a lot of tight little bumps or overspins from her spinning, so it is probably a bit longer, but I hate to start knitting something and run out!

I'm an experienced crocheter but have always wanted to try knitting. So I bought some pomp-a-doodle yarn today and some # 9 needles to make a simple scarf. Figured I couldn't screw up a straight row of nothing but knitting stitches. Alas...I was wrong!
CO 12 sts...knitted first row, ended up with 13 stitches on hook. Knitted another row, now I have 14 on the hook. At this rate I will have a front side of a turtle neck sweater instead of a scarf! Help please, and thanks in advance.

Hello everyone! I am knitting a sweater for my boyfriend and am having a little bit of trouble with the neck shaping instructions. Here are the instructions for the row I am having the most trouble with: Purl. Bind off rem 14 sts. With RS of work facing, sl next 30 sts from spare needle on a st holder. Join MC to rem sts and proceed as foll: Sl 1 K1 psso, k to end of row. Where my trouble is is at the end of the 14 sts I need to bind off, I don't understand how to finish the bind off at the end of the row, then join with my sts in the middle of the row without cutting the yarn.

I am looking for a pattern called Cables & Tweed afghan. The person who had the picture thought it was a Bernat pattern. Can anyone help me find it?

I am making a vest, and using a K2P2 ribbing on the arm holes and edges. I do not like a traditional bind off, cause it does not match the ribbing, but produces a ridge.

Is there another bind off that will be more invisible? Thanks, it is my first garmet, and so far it is turning out well. I want the finish to look good too.

I am knitting a vest in garter stitch and at a certain point, the pattern says that I need to finish knitting on right side. Which side would be the right oe ingarter stitich, can I choose the neater side? Does anyone have any photos of the wrong and right side of garter stitich? Does it really make a difference?

I have a print out for a "Reversible Ribbed Cable Scarf". I understand everything but the line that says:
Row 8: *FC, (k2,p2) twice* repeat from * to * end FC
Can someone explain this row to me? I understand k2, p2, etc.. but I am a bit rusty on my knitting and need the FC explained to me. Thank you.
