SHAWL
Ch 9; join with slip st to first ch to form ring.
Row 1: Ch 7, (dc, ch 4, dc) all in ring.
Row 2: Ch 7, turn; sc in first sp, sc in next dc, sc in next sp, ch 4, dc in 3rd ch of turning ch.
Row 3: Ch 7, turn; sc in first sp, sc in each of next 3 sc, sc in next sp, ch 4, dc in 3rd ch of turning ch.
Row 4: Ch 7, turn; sc in first sp, sc in each of next 5 sc, sc in next sp, ch 4, dc in 3rd ch of turning ch.

EDGING
Rnd 1: Ch 5, turn; dc in first sp, dc in next sc, ∗ dc in next sp, ch 2, skip next sc, dc in next sp, dc in next sc; repeat from ∗ across to corner loop, (dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in corner loop. Work around side of Shawl as follows: ch 2, skip next sp, dc in next sp, dc in next st, dc in next sp ; repeat from to across to sp before corner loop, ch 2, skip next sp, (3 dc,ch 3, 3 dc) in corner loop; repeat from to across to last sp on other side of Shawl, ch 2, skip next sp, (3 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in corner loop; join with slip st to 3rd ch of turning ch.
Rnd 2: Do not turn; slip st in first ch-2 sp, ch 5, [(dc, ch 2) twice, dc] all in same sp, skip next 3 dc, ∗ [(dc, ch 2) 3 times, dc] all in next sp . shell made; repeat from ∗ across to next corner ch-3 sp, [(dc, ch 2) 5 times, dc] all in next sp . corner shell made ; repeat from to 2 times more; join with slip st to 3rd ch of turning ch.
Rnd 3: Slip st in next sp, slip st in next dc, slip st in next sp (center sp of first shell), ch 5, (dc, ch 4, sc in 4th ch from hook . picot made, dc, ch 2, dc) all in same sp, ∗ (dc, ch 2, dc, Picot, dc, ch 2, dc) all in center sp of next shell; repeat from ∗ across to next corner shell, (dc, ch 2, dc, Picot, dc, ch 2, dc) all in 2nd sp of next corner shell, (dc, ch 2, dc, Picot, dc, ch 2, dc) all in 4th sp of corner shell ; repeat from to 2 times more; join with slip st to 3rd ch of turning ch; finish off.
Weave in yarn ends.
Roll Shawl in a damp towel for several hours,
then spread out flat, pin into shape and leave
to dry.
