Where's the curriculum?

I feel a bit foolish asking this, but I am getting ready to schedule my first class and CYC refers to sticking to the curriculum. Where is it? I see the projects, but no outline, etc on step by step class curriculum. Is the project itself curriculum? If so, I assume it is up to me to pace the teaching of different essentials, i.e., intro to hooks, yarn, various stitches, etc.
I am teaching at Michaels and it is new for them as well. I guess I just expected more of an outline or something that was universally used by the teachers. Sigh.....

Classes really just one night?

Many years ago I taught at Michaels and it was always a two week course. Just getting ready to start up our classes at our store again and I'm wondering how you are dealing with having to teach this in one night?

I guess I see the first class should be more than 2.5 hours since there is suppose to be a field trip to the yarn dept. discussion on types of yarns and weight etc and then actually teaching them how to tie a slip knot and then onto the single crochet.

How do you do all that in 2.5 hours?

Teaching in Multiple Stores - Suggestions

I have started teaching crochet in October, 2010. At this time I have 5 stores that I'm scheduled to teach at. I have designated one day per week per store to teach or do a demo - depending on the Manager's budget. It is difficult to get students when I do all the advertising. Very few people visit the classroom where the story board is showing the finished items. I have made up small flyers/notes that are displayed in the yarn department. Signing up students for the classes are very difficult.

Are there any limitations to what counts toward 15 hours necessary for certification?

I am still doing my certification while teaching the classes. Actually for the past 3 weeks I had only one class with one student, the rest were cancelled. Are free classes offered to church members or at school or somewhere else count toward 15 hours or only classes taught at Michael's? I need to get 15 hours!

Issue with the hat pattern from Week 3

At no time in the curriculum is the cluster stitch covered, and yet it is in the pattern. Let's face it, I just don't have time to get through the pattern to teach them this stitch. Why was that even included in a beginner's pattern? I am having the students substitute rounds of dc, but I want to see if anyone else's students are struggling with this?

How do you schedule your classes? (cross posted in both knit & crochet forums)

I'd love to hear how others set up their class schedules and whether you are teaching knit, crochet, or both sets of classes. I'd especially like to hear from people that are teaching the Discover program at more than one Michaels location.

Syllabus for Tall Stitches Class specifies Red Heart Soft rather than Super Saver

I just noticed that the Tall Stitches of Crochet syllabus calls for Red Heart Soft yarn whereas both project patterns (pillow and scarf) call for Super Saver. I had missed this until I had a student that purchased the Soft for her class last night. At first I thought it was nicer for the scarf however it seemed very splitty as she was practicing the various stitches which of course entailed a good bit of unraveling due to missing stitches as well as difficulty inserting her hook in the stitches.

What has been other people's experience?

Thanks,
Marian
